If you heat your home with oil, you know how important it is to always have as much oil in the tank as possible. However, if you find yourself low on oil, you need to refill the tank as soon as possible. Contact your local state office for information on getting help with the purchase of heating oil for your home. While their programs do generally have income guidelines, some states have higher income limits for heating assistance during the winter than for any other state assistance programs that are available through them. If you are at risk for being completely without heat in the immediate future, you will want to let them know. They may have an emergency heating fund that can help you much faster than their standard heating assistance program.

Seek Help From Local Charities

There may be some local charities within your area that have the funds to help get some heating oil for you. They may not be able to fill up your heating oil tank all winter, but they may be able to have enough delivered so you will not go without heat while you are trying to look into other resources. All you may need is that little bit of help to get you through, especially if you are just now waiting for your first paycheck from a new job to come in.

Look for Discounts

If you are elderly, active military, or a veteran, you might be able to get a small discount on the purchase of your oil through oil delivery companies that have such promotions. You will simply need to call around to all of the different local oil companies to see if any of them would be willing to help you out. You never know what type of discounts or additional help you might receive by simply asking. Explain your situation and you might even be able to work a deal on the delivery cost itself, such as getting it waived and just paying for the oil.
